Keeping suits and áo dài looking new

Five small habits that keep suits and áo dài crisp, colourful and in perfect shape for years.

Suits and áo dài are often the most expensive pieces in the wardrobe — and the ones most often ruined by poor care.

1. Skip the home washer

Silk, chiffon and wool shrink and lose shape in water. Dry clean instead.

2. Use wide-shoulder hangers

Thin hangers leave bumps in the shoulders. Wide wooden hangers keep the shape.

3. Let garments breathe

Don’t store them in plastic for long. Fabric garment bags let moisture escape.

4. Treat stains early

Lipstick, wine and grease set over time. Blot gently — don’t rub — and get it dry cleaned soon.

5. Steam, don’t press

Steaming removes wrinkles without leaving a shine on the fabric.
